Productions and Shows

Shine Performing Arts Academy opened at the beginning of 2024 as a result of a need for quality Drama, Acting and Theatre classes
in the region. After two terms of classes, Shine held its first showcase in July of 2024 and followed up with a Senior Drama
sell-out performance of Grimm Tales in Bray Hall. Numbers in classes continued to soar and our Christmas musical, 'Twas the
Week after Christmas' featured 42 young performers. Then in November, 'On the Hunt for Abba', was our first project with
adults and this brought together wonderful talent for a great cause.

Shine aims to empower people through the performing arts and has qualified and experienced teachers, creating a positive
environment for performers to grow and develop. In 2025, we staged the original musical ‘Bluebell’, Two cabarets, The Claw, and
have three original shows being developed for the south-east Queensland drama festival.

Check out the shows since only 2024, read about the talent, and view photos and programs from our shows. A catalogue of exciting productions has been growing since our opening in 2024, offering something for performers of all ages and skill levels.

'The Claw' was a children's musical about a toy cow named Dot who is comfortable in her out-of-order claw game until it suddenly gets fixed. The musical explored Dot's fear of the unknown as she and the other toys faced the possibility of being chosen by the claw. With the help of the Flair Bears, Mighty Mutant Power Turtles, Beanie Elders, and the Mystical 8-ball, Dot learned to confront her fears and embrace the unknown.  Our students had a blast exploring this wonderful show.

This vibrant and original musical tells the story of Bluebell, an Australian bush elf entrusted with a magical flower wand by the Elf Queen. Bluebell is determined to use the wand responsibly to help her friends. However, Axel the fox, alongside his mischievous accomplices, is plotting to steal the wand for his own gain. With larger-than-life characters, colourful costumes, and lively music, this show is designed for young audiences and promises a magical experience for the whole family.

Our team staged this in the April School Holidays to large audiences. This original musical, by Paula-Mary Camilleri and Eli J Ball, now has a vocal score and set of tracks to be licensed to other companies.

‘Twas the Week After Christmas

A hilarious and heartwarming story about what happens when the North Pole loses the Christmas Spirit. It’s been years since the Elves and Reindeer have gotten along. The Reindeer egos are high and Elves’ productivity is low. Will a week of vacation help remind the Elves and Reindeer what Christmas is all about?

In October 2024, our Senior Drama students dove headfirst into the strange, twisted, and magical world of Grimms’ Tales. This bold reimagining brought a fresh, modern twist to beloved characters—Cinderella, Snow White, Little Billy Goat, and Rapunzel—portrayed by four dynamic performers, supported by a large ensemble.
The adventure began when these contemporary characters stumbled upon an eerie, long- abandoned hall and, driven by curiosity (and perhaps a dash of mischief), decided to break in.
But the moment they cross the threshold, the ordinary dissolved into the extraordinary—they were swept into the darkly enchanting realm of the Brothers Grimm, where familiar stories
unravelled in unexpected and thrilling ways.

Time to Shine is a joyful celebration from Shine Performing Arts Academy — a collection of short plays written by our very own talented students.

Our senior students penned a hilarious situational comedy about a family whose quirks and chaos will feel instantly relatable — the kind of laughter that comes from recognising a little bit of ourselves in each character.

Meanwhile, our junior students took audiences on an out-of-this-world adventure with a funny, fast-paced play about aliens arriving on Earth… only to be completely baffled — and a little scared — by the unpredictable events and wild realities of everyday childhood life.

From playful creativity to thought-provoking moments, Time to Shine was a testament to the voices, vision, and boundless energy of our young storytellers.
