Paula Mary Camilleri - Playwright, composer, Lyricist

Paula Mary-Camilleri is a Brisbane-based playwright, composer, lyricist, director, and educator with over 30 years of experience in theatre. She has worked in all aspects of the performing arts, from directing professional touring productions in Western Australia to composing, writing, and voice acting. Her versatility and passion for storytelling have made her a distinguished figure in the Australian theatre community.

Her directorial talent was recognised at TheatreFest 2022, where she received the Best Director award for Good Deeds. In 2023, her play The Magpies was staged at the Noosa Arts Theatre ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL, where it was a finalist in the National One-Act Playwriting Competition and won the Nancy Cato Audience Choice Award. The play has since gone on to achieve remarkable success, collecting 23 awards on the South-East Queensland Drama Festival Circuit in 2024. That same year, Paula earned five Best Director awards across drama festivals, while also co-directing the acclaimed musical The Addams Family.

Beyond her stage successes, Paula has written over thirty plays and three musicals, many of which have been performed by theatre companies across Australia. She has also had her work presented at conferences, served as an experienced adjudicator, and composed a song for World Teacher’s Day that was performed at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

As a high school teacher and reviewer for Theatre Haus, Paula Mary continues to nurture the next generation of creatives. She is widely recognised for her collaborative approach, working with children, young people, and adults to bring stories to life, giving them a voice in shaping ideas, direction, and scripts. Her long term project When the Wind Blew, developed in collaboration with her son, further highlights her belief in the power of storytelling to connect and inspire.

Paula Mary Camilleri’s enduring dedication, creativity, and artistry ensure her place as a driving force in Australian theatre—both on stage and in the classroom.
